Research

My research aims to contribute to our understanding of language and communication. I work on the syntax/semantics/pragmatics of natural languages (especially, Japanese) from descriptive, formal, functional, and crosslinguistic points of view. In recent years, I have been pursuing, among other things, the following topics:

1. The syntax/semantics/pragmatics of placeholders in the world's languages
2. Formal modelling of case and rightward displacements in Japanese
